Dilbert series created by Scott Adams. In the episode “The Name” (25 January 1999) Dilbert is made head of the project to find a name for a product that hasn’t even been made yet, and as a result begins to fall victim to the legend of the “Chicken Man”. This is our sufering now!

“The name” in English
In our situation we have the program but not the name, and is being a pain in the ass to find one. We need to ask sorry because most of names will make sense in Spanish (because this program has been created in Centrologic España).The process:

1.  Named “Grafista”, the program splitted up in 3 small pieces that grew up by themselves.
2.  Initially we tried names with first letters of the project and derived names
3. Then we tried making new names like: Metonic, Pixelo, iScada, Aribo, Besela, Scartu or Niobio. But again they didn’t make much sense, so we tried to find new names for it.
4. Maybe names of actors in some game: “The lemmings” (Climber, Floater,…). It didn’t work very good.
5. Maybe names of actors in some movies: “Bug’s life” in Spanish “Bichos” (Flick, Hopper,…), “Finding Nemo” in Spanish “Buscando a Nemo” (Nemo, Marlyn, Dory,…), “Monsters Inc” in Spanish “Monstruos S.A.” (Sullivan, Mike Wazowski, Boo,…), “Masters of the Universe” in Spanish “Amos del Universo” (He-Man, Skeletor,..)…any of them worked fine either.
6. Later we thought maybe to use some village funny spanish words like: Zagal, Quinqui, Arbañih, Venepacá or with some better meaning like Histéricos (to Históricos), Amoto (to Remota) or Achís (to HMI Visualización). Still we don’t like it much.
7. Also we tried with one name and many derived for each part, like: Currante RTU, Currante Grafista, Currante Web or a strange name like: Pelicano RTU, Pelicano Grafista, Pelicano Web, or some that doesn’t exists like: Churritruski RTU, Churritruski Grafista, Churritruski Web or globalization style like: MacRTU, Macgraph, Macweb or maybe Grafi RTU, Grafi Pinta, Grafi web.

So we are suffering clearly the syndrome of “Chicken Man” and we are still looking for a name. Do you hep us?

Description of parts of the project:

1.  RTU or remote unit terminal is used to get information straight from the hardware, all this information is taken on real time and saved to a file. With it, it is possible to know the status of the hardware on every moment.
2.  Visualizaction program on the web. It shows a map of the factory and the status of every machine there. It shows values of pressure, intensity, consumption, on/off status, etc…
3.  Program that get information from RTUs, put it in a database, make graphs (the most important task here) and send emails with this graphs

We keep trying, and we will update this blog when we have the final name for the project.
